Do I have to be good at art or a creative person?

The short answer is ‘no’. Art therapy is not about ‘how good’ you are, how creative or experienced you may be. Art therapy focusses on the process and how it feels, rather than the end product, your skills, or experience.

What happens in an art therapy session?

Your session will be tailored to suit your needs and goals. Your session may begin with a warm-up activity or a mindfulness exercise. You will be invited to follow a prompt or theme to guide your artmaking. A range of art materials will be provided with guidance on how you can use them. Following the artmaking, the therapist will invite you to share and discuss your artwork with them, however, sharing and discussing your artwork is always optional.

Does the art therapist interpret my artwork?

This is another common art therapy misconception. The art therapist is not there to interpret your artwork, rather, they are there to support you in discovering and expressing what the artwork means to you.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Nope! All necessary artmaking materials will be provided by the therapist.

What happens to my artwork after the session?

You will be invited to leave your artwork with the art therapist who will store your artwork safely and securely, or you are welcome to take it with you.

How long are the sessions and how often should my sessions be?

Sessions are 50-60 minutes in length. They can be as often as you feel would be beneficial to you or your young person. The therapist may suggest a timeframe based on the goals and needs of the individual.

Do you work with NDIS-funded participants?

We welcome NDIS-funded (both self-managed and plan-managed) young people and adults. The participant must have funding allocated for Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living Skills.

Can I utilise my private health insurance for a rebate?

We are a registered provider for select health insurance companies. Please check with your health insurance provider to clarify eligibility.

What is your Cancellation Policy?

We understand that things come up and life happens! Should you need to cancel your session, simply provide us with 48 hours notice and avoid a fee. If the session is cancelled within the 48-hour timeframe, an invoice equal to 50% of the session fee will be given. Should you fail to attend your session without cancellation, an invoice for the full fee will be given.
